Investing Hot Spots In Central America

Central America is coming of age as a retirement investment destination.  Tourists have been visiting the region for many years.  Costa Rica stands out in this regard, but more recently there’s interest from a growing number of investors and retirees.  They’re arriving because of the low real estate prices, the beauty of the area and the low cost of living.  In this article we set out four ‘purchasing destinations’ that are capturing the most attention.

In Belize, the Placencia Peninsular is capturing all the headlines.  It has one of the most beautiful beaches on the mainland of Belize offering a classic Caribbean experience.  In the last few months the road from the Southern Highway all the way to Placencia Village itself has been paved and a new international airport is under-construction.  New businesses are setting up and Belize real estate developers are flocking to the area.

The colonial town of Granada is the top tourism spot in Nicaragua.  The town has a beautiful historic center full of well restored colonial buildings and is located in one of the most attractive parts of the country with crater lake Apoyo, the famous isletas and Mombacho volcano all close by.  Perhaps best of all, Nicaragua real estate as a whole is one of the most affordable options in the region.

In Panama, it’s well worth checking out what is on offer in Boquete, especially if you enjoy the crisper, cooler temperature of higher altitude areas.  The transport links to David, the largest town in this western region of Panama have recently been upgraded and Boquete itself has evolved into a mature second home residential community.

In Costa Rica, it’s worth heading to Jaco to see up close and in person the close relationship between tourism and real estate prices.  If you’re looking for a vacation home with strong rental returns in the months where you will be away then spend some time exploring this area with local real estate agents.  The recently completed road from the capital San Jose will serve to bolster the market further.
