Why Invest in Morgan Silver Dollars?

Morgan silver dollars have proven to be a very popular coin to collect amongst investors due to their strong growth.  This is why there are thousands of Morgan silver dollars being sold on eBay at any one time.  It is one of the most well documented and researched coins in existence and is highly sought after by coin collectors.   This is partly due to its strong growth in recent years with Morgan silver dollars in an uncirculated grade seeing the highest growth

Like all ancient and old coins it is graded using the Sheldon Scale 70-point system.  It is important to know the grade or condition a coin is in as it has the greatest impact on its value.  The Sheldon Scale system has become the standard coin grading system and consists of a grading scale from 1 to 70 with 70 being an uncirculated coin in perfect condition and 1 being a coin in the most poor condition.

Because the grade of a coin has the greatest impact on a coins value it is important to know the grade of the coin before buying on online sites such as eBay.  Coin sellers will sometimes exaggerate the grade of the coin they are selling as they know it will increase the buying value of their coin.  This is why it is wise to buy coins that have been graded and slabbed by professional coin grading services such as PCGS, ACCGS and NGC.

The best way of keeping track of the value of different Morgan silver dollars is by identifying the date they were minted, which mint they were minted by and the grade of the coin.  Using a reliable book such as the “Official Red Book Guide to United States Coins” it should be possible to obtain an estimate of the value of the coin and how much it should sell for.  However the only reliable way of discovering how much you’re old Morgan silver dollar will sell for is to try auctioning it off on eBay.  You can always set a minimum selling price so your coin does not sell for less than you know it to be worth.
